Fostertown Scholars Take Salsa Lesson as Part of Hispanic Heritage Celebration
On Friday, October 20, dual language classes at Fostertown gathered in their gym for a celebration of Hispanic Heritage. Upon their arrival, the scholars were welcomed by dance instructor, Matt Hernandez of Matt Hernandez Dance Co. Matt is a 28 year old entrepreneur who grew up going to classes with his mother, who is also a dancer instructor, and developed a love of dance. He began his professional career in Accounting/Business, but ultimately decided business was not his passion. Matt decided to follow in his mother's footsteps and opened his own dance company to share his love of Latin dance and music with others.
During his visit to Fostertown, Matt patiently provided a step-by-step tutorial in the basic moves of Salsa dancing. The scholars gathered around him and did their very best to follow his simple, yet detailed instructions. He described to them how to count the steps with the beat of the music. Matt taught the basics before incorporating the music. Once the students had a better grasp of the steps, he turned on the music, and they attempted to put it all together.
